When are you ever going to see that sort of headline?
Senior positions are, of course, never advertised with ‘no experience necessary’ – but these days it’s rare to even see a junior role advertised without experience needed.
So what can students of today do to get a footing into the world of work?
As you can see from my profile, I’m not a permanent employee here at RB. I’m a student at Loughborough University and I decided that I’d like some industrial experience before I finished my degree. One of the major reasons for choosing a placement was to make myself more employable after my degree.
Hundreds of University courses offer the opportunity to take a placement, most people will take the opportunity in order to get that valuable experience that will make them all the more employable afterwards.

So what does RB offer students?
RB in the UK offers 35-40 students 12 month placements each year. Most of the placements are science based, with Chemistry being the main role, but other placements are available within Information Services, Finance, Management, Engineering and Design.
I’m studying Industrial Design and working in Hull doing product design on new concepts.
I wanted a placement that would stand out from other people’s; and with RB’s performance track record and worldwide coverage, I was very happy when I was offered the job.
I have had the opportunity to work on 6 of RB’s power brands and worked at various different stages of the design process. The placement has given me extremely valuable insight into the world of business and industry; I will be much better prepared to tackle my final year and the inevitable job hunt after.
