My RB Insight into Trade Marketing…

By

After my year placement in R&D (Read my previous blog), I have had the opportunity to continue my experience with RB through an internship in trade marketing.

My trade marketing summer internship is focused on point of sale development and over the next few weeks I will write more about the role and my personal developments. For now I want to start by introducing trade marketing…

So what is Trade marketing?

When pursuing a career in marketing you can specialise in many different areas of corporate marketing. Some marketers specialise in communications, there role being to develop written and online communications (increasing awareness through these mediums). Others work to create product concepts, implement marketing campaigns, manage their brand websites, analyse consumer and market intelligence and launch new products. Trade marketing is the area focused on development of marketing programs targeted to trade (i.e. distributors, retailers and wholesalers) who will sell the company’s products to the consumers. In RB, the team also works to enhance shopper experience.

As you can imagine building demand at the middleman is essential for a company like RB. It is due to RB products being sold so successfully at this point, that consumers can find our products wherever they are in the world, at the right price and that the product will be placed in the best position on the shelf to attract their attention. Not to forget the product is promoted enough to ensure the consumer is aware of the products every benefit, and will choose the RB products over competitors. This successful execution of RB trade marketing mix (Place, Product, Price and Promotion) results in sales secured at the shelf.

Examples of trade marketing projects may be based around:

- Category and Range Management
- Pricing Strategy
- Promo Origination and Execution
- Point of Sale Development and Inventory Management

And much more!

This is a short introduction to a role in marketing that you may not have previously considered. I think as undergraduates/graduates who are searching for the right position it is good to think practically and laterally.

The beauty of RB is the variety of positions on offer. Employees are actively encouraged to experience different areas both within the RB structure and geographically, so you will find the perfect role for you and then work becomes a hobby rather than a chore.

You also need to keep in mind that the first job you have will influence your chances of moving up to a second. Improve your chances in life; make sure your experience is with a leader. Join a company where you are challenged, to grow, improve and develop. Dare to join a company that needs you to be strong, act quickly and be direct. Dare to join RB.
