Reckitt Benckiser Supply Chain: Summer placements

Earlier this year, I spent some time working with a summer placement graduate from Leeds University.
I wanted to share some thoughts on his experience, as hopefully it may motivate more aspiring managers to seek out an exciting opportunity with Reckitt Benckiser!

We are always on the look out for top tier students interested in the supply chain business, with a primary focus on the engineering faculties, or students with an operations or business degree bias.
If you think you have what it takes to work in a results-driven environment which provides challenging experiences, high levels of responsibility and, of course, pressure on a daily basis, then investigate further at RB’s career pages!

The following is an account of Elliot’s experience with the company during his placement at the UK's Nottingham site.
“My summer working with Reckitt Benckiser contained different interconnected aspects of the supply chain, working from the Nottingham site on the [...]

Allan – Supply

Project Engineer

Name:  Allan
Nationality:  British
Where I work for RB: Hull, UK – Supply

Education: I graduated from UMIST with a master’s in Chemical Engineering.  Before and throughout university I tailored my career towards technical subjects, while getting involved with as many extra curricular activities as possible like volunteer work and holding a directorship in a large young enterprise company, which went on to win second place in the regional finals.  I also undertook industry time at BP, working in the technical projects department.

Career: I have always had a passion for engineering; as a result I was forced to make a difficult decision when leaving University.  I could have begun a technically specialised career route, or moved into a fast paced company where progression was the driving factor.  It’s pretty obvious which path I chose and I can honestly say I am very happy with my decision.  As opposed to the alternate opportunities presented to me by oil, gas or similar industries; RB provides numerous exciting challenges on a daily basis, which can be remarkably different each time.  I believe the further I progress and the more responsibility given to me will only make every day more stimulating.

I joined RB on the Supply Chain Management graduate scheme upon graduation, and I am enjoying every minute.  During the short 10 months I have spent with the company so far I have worked as:

Continuous Improvement Facilitator, Derby, UK (6 months) – Where I led and championed upwards of 10 cost and waste saving projects around the site.
Engineering/Operations Project Engineer, Hull, UK (6 months)
– I am currently leading a priority department project with the aim of increasing Gaviscon factory throughput.
Area Production Team Leader, Nottingham, UK (12 Months) –
I will be moving to Nottingham in the next month to take over management of a supply production team for one of our powerbrands.  The key challenge will be to boost performance while maintaining international supply, one which I am greatly looking forward to.

Despite still being in the company’s graduate scheme I have already gained a wealth of experience thanks to the amazing opportunities granted by RB.  Ultimately the challenge is to constantly deliver, and this is one I thoroughly accept.
