The gloomy post graduation employability prospect for students and recent graduates is always a hot topic in the media and I am sure has left many of us worried. An update published by graduate recruitment organisation High Fliers highlighted that competition is toughest for graduate positions in consumer goods manufacturers (like Reckitt Benckiser) where this year employers received at least 70 applications per graduate position.

Just from reading these blogs you will understand that graduate schemes in RB and similar companies can offer us huge opportunities to develop ourselves, progress to management quickly and set a great learning platform for our future careers. Education: I am a Chemical Engineering student at Aston University

Career: I recently moved to Corporate Headquarters in Slough for a summer placement with the Global Trade Marketing team. Previously I spent the placement year integrated into my degree working in Research and Development for the Airwick brand. You may have read my blog entry “what an R&D year in industry is really like” which can give you an insight into the fantastic experience I had and the opportunities you can expect to have from a placement year with RB.

It was during my year I met with RB marketing colleagues and became fascinated by the work that they do. As my placement year drew to an end I decided to apply for a summer placement in marketing to learn more about the field as a career. I was successful in obtaining a position and three weeks ago I began a new opportunity in a challenging trade marketing position.

In just over a year I have had a wonderful variety of experiences, projects and responsibilities which have allowed me to learn and grow in the world of RB. I could not have thought of a better company to continue my journey with over the summer.
