Today, we are going back home to Germany. At 6 a.m. in the morning, we leave by car to Luanda, which is eight hours away. We arrive safely in Luanda and can have a last meeting with the employees of Save the Children in Luanda and say goodbye to everybody.

We are about to board the plane with lots of impressions from the projects – we would like to say a big thank you Save the Children and Reckitt Benckiser!

Tag 4

Team Hoffmann

Name: Astrid, Solveig und Matthias Hoffmann

Nationality: German

Link to RB: Team Hoffmann participated in the RB student competition “Do something BIG!” and won the competition with their concept “Radio Education in Angola”.

‘Do something BIG!’ started in 2010 and was a joint competition from RB and Save the Children. The competition invited students to develop an idea to support the work of Save the Children helping them to save children’s lives in Angola and to demonstrate their problem solving skills, analytical skills and persuasiveness. The employees of Reckitt Benckiser Germany had collected an amount of ca. € 55.000 to fund ‘Do something BIG!’. We were looking for a really convincing idea how this money should be invested to help children in poverty and children in need in Angola, one of the poorest regions of the world.

The quality of the idea was judged in the final in May 2010 by a jury with experts of Save the Children and Reckitt Benckiser. The concept “Radio Education in Angola” of Team Hoffmann has convinced the Jury most in all criteria for where the € 55.000 should be spent for the benefit of the children in Angola, based on the criteria:

  • Sustainability and impact
  • Activation of your social network
  • Quality of the business case
  • Quality and uniqueness of the idea

Astrid, Solveig and Matthias are siblings and participated in the competition as a team, because they wanted to help actively by developing an idea for the children in Angola. They were intrigued by the level of freedom and responsibility they could demonstrate in the competition. All three are students and live in Germany and Switzerland.

As winning team they are now invited to participate in a unique fieldtrip to Angola to experience the work of Save the Children funded by Reckitt Benckiser. The 5 day trip starts on April, 24th and will take the team to several projects funded by RB in the region of Huambo. The team will be accompanied by employees of Save the Children and RB. Depending on the availability of an internet connection in Angola, a daily update of their experiences and impressions will be provided in this blog and on www.savethechildren-blog.de (in German).
