Looking Back Before Moving Forward...

As I wind down my blogging responsibilities, it feels appropriate to announce that I’m finishing up as Pharmacy Sales Analyst and will take on my next challenge as Assistant Brand Manager for Pest Control -uber excited!

Seeing as  this will be my last blog post, I thought it would be fitting to revisit some of the key points in my first blog post, which was about my reasons for working at RB and how it would help me achieve my goal of having a fulfilling marketing career. Let’s see whether these points still stand true 6 months on…

.
Strong portfolio of brands – No doubt this point still rings true. My Sales Analyst/Account Manager role has put me at the forefront of promoting our RB Powerbrands to my customers to ensure support and promotion within their stores. Massive launches of the past 6 months in Australia? Strepsils Cool, Nurofen for Children relaunch, Dettol No Touch Systems and Veet Suprem Essence just to name a few…

Raymond – Sales

Sales Analyst

Name: Raymond
Nationality: Australian
Where I work for RB: Australia – Sales
Education: I completed a Bachelors of Commerce/Arts (Media and Communications) at the University of Melbourne, specialising in Marketing and Communications. I also studied abroad for 6 months at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
Career: It’s been a great 12 months at RB, I have learnt so much about marketing and sales, I guess what you learn at university is just the tip of the iceberg!

I made the move from Melbourne to Sydney for the RB Graduate Program in 2009, I chose RB over other FMCG companies because it had a strong portfolio of consumer products and a well structured graduate program which allows me to fast track my career.

FMCG is certainly a challenging yet fascinating industry to work in. It’s amazing how quickly the retail environment changes but to be able to contribute and be involved in how RB tackles these challenges with its innovation and expertise is where I’ve really been able to develop and drive my career.

Like most other graduates, I started off as a Sales Representative in the field. I was based in the Pharmacy channel and managing about 120 pharmacies. My main responsibilities were building displays, planograms, selling in promotions and dealing with buyers on a regular basis to be able to influence their buying patterns. But in all honesty, I think the biggest challenge was trying to navigate around Sydney’s one way streets in my Ford Territory…that definitely took some time to get used to!

I’m currently in my second rotation of the RB Graduate Program, working as a Sales Analyst for the Pharmacy channel. Dealing with sales data and knowing what to do with it is definitely a challenge, but I work with a great team who are always willing to help and I know that RB are always supportive in sending me to relevant training courses to build up my skills set.

2010 will be an exciting year indeed…more account responsibilities, more projects to get involved in and challenging targets to achieve, life is never boring at RB!
