Umar – Trade Marketing

Name: Umar

Nationality: Pakistani

Where and what I work for: RB’s Trade Marketing Manager (Dettol and Veet), Pakistan

Education: I did my MBA from IBA Karachi with major in Marketing. During my MBA program, I interned with RB Pakistan in Sales, an experience that changed my life for good.
I have an undergraduate degree in Computer System Engineering from the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), where I was also the President of GIKI Science Society.

Career: I first joined a large chemical business after my Bachelors Degree as SAP analyst for Sales and Distribution, which is said to be a dream start for a computer analyst. The business was thriving and offered excellent perks, but soon, life started becoming routine. I was caught up doing the same things day in day out and there were not enough opportunities to innovate and challenge myself. Moreover, I realized the slow career progression the organization offered due to its size and bureaucratic culture. I needed a change!

While working as S&D analyst, I provided support to the commercial function. The ever changing scenarios and growth opportunities prompted me to change my career altogether and move to the commercial stream. I decided to take a break and did my MBA with major in Marketing.

During my MBA program, I interned with RB as a Sales Intern, an experience that opened me to a whole new world – a world full of challenges, innovations and more importantly, growth! I had to be part of this organization.

After my MBA Program, I joined RB Pakistan as a Management Trainee. During the next year, I rotated in Sales, Trade Marketing and Marketing to understand different facets of the commercial function while also developing a better understanding of the overall business. After my Management Trainee program, I was placed as Assistant Key Accounts Manager Karachi, followed by a stint as Area Sales Manager Rawalpindi – giving me first hand experience of two completely different markets. I am currently working as Trade Marketing Manager, Dettol and Veet.
